Project Community Connections, Inc. (PCCI) is a non-profit organization that builds relationships with property owners, government agencies, and community organizations to help clients become self-sufficient, so they can remain stably housed and thrive in all aspects of their lives.

SUCCESS STORIES

Ms. M was working, but not making enough to sustain housing in Florida. She stayed in different rooming houses until she decided to relocate to Atlanta. There, she found herself homeless and staying either in her car or in shelters. Ms. M was referred to PCCI for rapid re-housing services. Following enrollment in the program, her Caseworker worked with Ms. M to increase her income and locate permanent housing.

Ms. M was housed. She has been able to get her CNA license renewed and is currently working full-time at Select Hospital and is waiting on a second job with Grady. Ms. M is a success: She has come out of homelessness and is now stably housed, employed, and continuing to look for better opportunities to increase her self-sufficiency, increase her self-esteem, and improve her life.

Mr. D is an honorably discharged Army veteran. The first time he came to PCCI, he was sleeping in the vacant lot where his mother’s house had burnt down. By the time he was discharged from the SSVF program, he was renting a room with day labor income. However, he continued to struggle with alcoholism.

When Mr. D enrolled at PCCI for the second time, he had lost his housing and employment and was participating in intensive substance abuse treatment. After completing treatment, he connected to an internship program and earned a forklifting certificate. Mr. D obtained a full-time position and was able to maintain his sobriety. Despite a criminal background history, poor credit, and limited income, Mr. D secured permanent housing for himself and his wife.

CJ was referred to PCCI through the Peachtree and Pine shelter closure initiative between City of Atlanta and area agencies. He had been residing at the shelter since 1997. Prior to that, CJ slept on the streets of Atlanta for ten years. He struggled with drug addiction issues, which contributed to the length of time that he was homeless, but has been off drugs for the past fifteen years. PCCI helped CJ get approved for an apartment, and he moved in November 2017. He has maintained stable housing and employment and is enjoying the quietness of his apartment and being able to wash his clothes at home.
